Leveling Up: My 2025 Goal to Master Public Speaking

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to meet world-renowned speaker Sam Cawthorn while day chairing an EO event he was hosting, centred around the concept of "story showing." Sam’s story is nothing short of phenomenal. From growing up in Tasmania with 11 siblings to enduring a life-altering accident that left him with an amputated right arm and a leg disability, he transformed himself into a world-class speaker. It was truly inspiring to hear him share his journey.

At the end of the event, we participated in a communications workshop led by Sam and his partner Craig Johns, where they taught us valuable techniques for public speaking and effective communication. One of the most impactful moments was Sam’s challenge to make a proclamation—something we’d never shared before but wanted to manifest into reality. For me, I declared that I believe I can become one of the best public speakers on earth. The room’s roaring cheer only heightened the pressure!

Later, we worked through one of Sam’s many communication frameworks, and it’s stuck with me ever since. Having mentored over a dozen entrepreneurs to breakthrough success, spoken in Adelaide, been invited to speak overseas at other EO chapters, and shared my business frameworks on podcasts, I’m more determined than ever to take my speaking skills to the next level. Becoming exceptional at this craft is now my focus for 2025.

Sam's personal tragedy ultimately led him to a career in speaking, and it’s a journey that has lit a path for me as well. When you truly love a craft, level 0 can feel great, but I’ve seen firsthand—whether it’s the dentists I work alongside who thrive on serving patients or my passion for helping business leaders level up—that mastery requires deep commitment.
